The history of PAI

Productive Access, Inc. (PAI) offers uniquely powerful software tools for market research analysis. From the start when PAI was founded in 1987, our goal has been to enable our customers to interact with their data as quickly and easily as possible in order to make fully informed decisions.

PAI was formed in 1987 by individuals with an extensive understanding and background in the automotive research industry. PAI’s founders recognized the automotive industry’s unmet need to efficiently tabulate large survey research data sets. Satisfying this need for quick and easy analysis led to the creation of PAI’s flagship product in 1988 - the mTAB™ software and service.

PAI is proud to say that 90% of our revenue comes from customers that we have had for 10 years of more and 95% of our revenue comes from customers that we’ve had for 5 years or more. Since the early days of mTAB™, PAI has maintained and cultivated our core automotive business, while expanding our customer base beyond the automotive industry. PAI’s customer base includes every automotive manufacturer along with major leaders in the quick service restaurant, consumer products & retail, telecommunications, financial, and health care industries. In 1989, PAI formed a partnership with Gamma Associates Ltd. Gamma Associates, the European side of the PAI-GAMMA Partnership, is an information technology company specializing in computer-based analysis and presentation of marketing information. The PAI-GAMMA Partnership helped launch the mTAB™ service in Europe, over 20 years ago and it is still going strong.

Today, as more customers entrust their data needs to us, PAI continues to see the number of mTAB™ analysts grow. PAI proudly maintains a loyal global customer base in multiple industries on six continents.

Here are some of our Company Highlights:

  • 1987 – Productive Access, Inc. is founded
  • 1988 – mTAB™ for the MS-DOS platform is released for PCs
  • 1989 – The PAI-GAMMA Partnership is formed between PAI and Gamma Associates
  • 1991 – PAI opens a Midwest regional office
  • 1993 – mTAB™ for Windows 3.1 is released for PCs
  • 1997 – PAI forms a partnership with J.D. Power & Associates, which continues today 
  • 1997 – PAI brands mTAB™ as Power Analyst for all J.D. Power clients
  • 1997 – mTAB™ Version 5.3 is released
  • 2002 – PAI launches the Audithost™ software for Mystery Shop reporting
  • 2004 – PAI releases a beta version of mTAB™ for the web
  • 2006 – Existing mTAB™ clients begin migrating to mTAB™ for the web
  • 2006 – PAI outgrows its original office and relocates to larger headquarters
  • 2008 – PAI releases its first summer and winter updates for mTAB™ for the web
  • 2009 – mTAB™ for the web enhancements continue (please refer to our News & Events page for current news)
