Correcting Information in "Available Studies" Menu

There are two probable reasons you would need to make a change to the "Available Studies" screen. The first is if the setup.ini on the first disk has a mistake, the second is if you want to change the text of a study name, or change the order of your studies. A better way to change the order of your studies is to use "Project Maintenance".

STEP 1

Using Windows Explorer/File Manager, access the mtabwin.ini file in your mtabwin directory, not your mtab directory. In this file you will see a section preceded by [STUDIES]. This section keeps a record of which studies you have installed on your PC. A typical line in this section will look like this:

1998 Widget Buyer Study=C:\MTAB\WIDGET\WIDG98.MDB

If you want to change the description in your "Available Studies" window you can edit the text to the left of the equal sign. If you know the filename or path is wrong, you can edit that to the right of the equal sign. If you have a study on your machine which is not in the "Available Studies" you can add an entire new line using the syntax above.

Now save your changes, close mtabwin.ini, close mTAB if it is running, and launch mTAB again. Hopefully your changes have taken effect. If not, you need to do one more thing. If you are using mTAB 5.0 or later, proceed to STEP 2. If you are using mTAB 4.9 or older proceed to STEP 3.

STEP 2 - mTAB 5.0 or newer users only!

In Windows Explorer, go to your windows directory, and then double-click on regedit.exe. This program is the Windows Registry Editor. (The full path is usually c:\windows\regedit.exe)

In the Registry Editor, go to

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    • Software
      • Productive Access
        • mTAB for Windows
          • Project Configuration Data
            • Detail

Under Detail, you will find a list of studies. They are going to directories such as 0000_Study, 0001_Study, and so on. Each of these directories has a sub directory called Describer. If you click on Describer, you will see the (old) study description under "Long Description" as well as the path. Go through this list of studies until you find the describer that has the problem study in it. Then if you find it in Decriber under 0005_Study for example, go ahead and delete 0005_Study, close the Registry Editor, close mTAB if it is open and then launch mTAB again. Your problem should be fixed!

STEP 2 - mTAB 4.9 or older users only!

Using File Manager, proceed to your mtabwin directory and delete mtabwin.pcm

Next, close mTAB if it is open and then launch mTAB again. Your problem should be fixed!
