Exporting Spreadsheets to Excel 2007

Please be aware that some Excel 2007 users have experienced challenges when opening an exported spreadsheet from mTAB™.

Excel 2007 has some difficulty reading an exported spreadsheet from mTAB™ when the spreadsheet contains any colorized cell formatting such as Top N Color, Conditional Formatting, or Applying Color To Significance Testing Results.

When Excel 2007 opens these types of spreadsheets, users have experienced unexpected results such as background cell colors either changing to a different color or being removed completely.

NOTE: These oddities only occur when using Excel 2007.  Previous versions of Excel, such as Excel 2003, are not affected.

Enhancements are being programmed to ensure full spreadsheet compatibility with Excel 2007.  Until they are in place, please use the following steps as a best practice for viewing exported spreadsheets with color formatting in Excel 2007.

Select HTML To Export

In mTAB™, setup and run a tab as usual. Apply colorized cell formatting by using one of the previously mentioned features (Top N Color, Conditional Formatting, Applying Color to Significance Testing).

Export the results, but instead of exporting to a Spreadsheet (XLS), export to an HTML file instead.

Save The Current HTML File As XLS

Open the exported HTML file in Excel 2007.

Note the colors of the formatted cells. They should be the same as what was displayed in mTAB™.

Save As An XLS File

Next, save the current file as an Excel spreadsheet.

The newly created XLS file is ready for use. All cell background colors and formatting should have carried over from mTAB™ to Excel 2007.
